Industry Information Sessions on PIF 5.0 and VITAL 2.0

The Allergen Bureau and the Australian Food and Grocery Council are pleased to announce a series of industry information sessions launching the latest PIF 5.0 and VITAL 2.0.

Information sessions will cover:

  • the latest release of the Product Information Form (PIF 5.0) along with a data migration tool for PIF 4.3 files developed by the AFGC;
  • an overview of the new features – how the form works and what data is required;
  • how to use the data migration tool to move data from PIF 4.3 files to the new PIF 5.0;
  • the latest release of VITAL 2.0 and discussion of the changes to the VITAL Program;
  • the outcomes of the VITAL Scientific Expert Panel (VSEP) review;
  • what do the changes to VITAL mean for my business.

The PIF was developed by industry through the AFGC to provide a single standardised form that assists with assessing allergen information, labelling compliance, nutrition claims and claims about dietary suitability, sustainability and packaging. PIF 5.0 is the latest incremental version of the PIF and comes with a data migration tool to migrate data from the previous version to the new version.

VITAL (Voluntary Incidental Trace Allergen Labelling) is a risk-based methodology for food producers to use in assessing the impact of cross contact allergens and subsequently determining appropriate precautionary allergen labelling.

VITAL 2.0 is the outcome of the international VITAL Scientific Expert Panel (VSEP) review in 2011. The review provides both increased rigour and credibility of the system, and re-evaluation of action levels consistent with best available international data.
